PONTIANAK – Deputy Chairman of the West Kalimantan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Rudyzar Zaidar Mochtar said that both farmers and kratom plant businesses need regulations on kratom production for export in order to maintain quality and price in the international market.
“We encourage the government to intervene and enforce regulations regarding export kratom production. This is to protect local farmers and business actors in this field,” he said in Pontianak, Monday.
He said the need for regulations and intervention to ensure quality kratom products from West Kalimantan. This is because in recent months a number of containers of kratom flour from Indonesia have been returned from the United States.
“Although it was recorded that it was exported from other provinces, the raw material for kratom flour mostly came from West Kalimantan. Two months ago there were 14 containers. Meanwhile, this month there were 7 containers that were rejected,” he explained.
He explained that the return of the containers was because the products sent did not pass the quality test. This is because the buyer found that the kratom flour sent was mixed with other ingredients.
“You say that our kratom has low levels of mitragyna. In fact, it is said that some are mixed with wheat flour and leaf flour from other plants. We don’t know whether this report is true or not,” he said.
He was also surprised by the recent increase in exports of kratom from Indonesia. This is because production at the farm level has not experienced a drastic increase. This person who is also involved in the kratom export sector hopes that exporters from Indonesia will not commit fraud in order to increase the volume of their shipments. The reason is that it is detrimental to all parties, including farmers in the area.
“If someone is naughty, that hits us all”. Again, his party and a number of other associations have also encouraged the government to intervene and enforce regulations regarding export kratom production.
“We really agree with the production standards that have been set. We ourselves continue to educate and socialize internally to business actors to improve the quality of international grade products,” he explained.
